Throwing open your house for an afternoon or evening over the Christmas holidays is a wonderfully relaxed way to host a party and get together with your friends and relatives. It can be as formal or as uncomplicated and simple as you wish it to be - to suit your preferences and keep your stress levels low!

Unless you are a big party animal, it makes sense to put an end time for your party on your invitations, as well as a start time. This will set expectations and keeps things within your comfort zone! Mostly with open house parties, guests are then welcome to arrive anytime between the set hours, so be prepared for a constant stream of arrivals.

One idea from this site is to have a signature drink (such as a fruit punch) to welcome your guests with.

If you want to keep things relaxed then stick to a simple menu plan. Finger foods or a buffet style menu work really well with this type of party and leave guests free to help themselves (leaving you free to enjoy yourself!)

"Remember, if Christmas isn't found in your heart,
you won't find it under a tree."
- Charlotte Carpenter.
